I heard from a state employee that the Liquor Stores are the ONLY government agency that generates their own payroll and contribute to the general fund. FINALLY, we have a agency not in debt to anyone! Now, the privatization will mean a one time fee for the purchases of liquor licenses (which will bring the State money momentarily supposedly for education) from supermarkets, Walmart's Kohl's, Cos-cos, BJ's and stores like them. But get this; once the license is purchased they will buy their products directly from vendors, so my question is how will the State then generate revenue or will the state be in trouble financially? One more question I have and this may go over some people heads, but why would we not keep our liquor stores and still funnel some of that revenue (millions of dollars) to education in the urban communities? In a recent article I read somewhere:
"Why would we want to be like the 48 other states when we're already so much better than them?" Young asked.
Democrats are largely hostile to efforts that will put unionized liquor store clerks out of work, and leaders of the Republican-controlled Senate are cool to the idea.
So, inquiring minds want to know why would anyone stop a cash cow from generating monies that could really be used to help our schools and communities? HELLO! We are failing our youth, schools are closing, violence is at a all time high and unemployment is already an issue.......Please send our your thoughts on this matter, tell us what you think. Should Pennsylvania Privatize or do we remain different from the rest?
Philly's Own Gossip Girl adding her two cents....
As always, xoxo
