Speakers include Dr. C William Schwab, Professor of Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. John Rich, Professor at the Drexel University School of Public Health, and Shira Goodman, Executive Director of Ceasefire PA. The Pillars of Peace and the Global Peace Index, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Carriage House/LGBT Center, 3907 Spruce Street, at the University of Pennsylvania. The Institute for Economics and Peace is an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit research organization dedicated to shifting the world’s focus to peace as a positive, achievable, and tangible measure of human well-being and progress. IEP produces the Global Peace Index, national peace indices such as the US Peace Index, the Pillars of Peace framework, and analysis of the economic impact of peace. More info at peacedayphilly.org. Heeding God’s Call, a faith-based movement to prevent gun violence, has announced a Good Friday Vigil in Philadelphia, on March 29th, 2013. Participants will gather at 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s Baptist Church at 1000 Wallace Street, at the corner of 10th Street. They will proceed to Benjamin Franklin High School at 550 North Broad Street, which is one block north of Spring Garden Street. More info at heedinggodscall.org. As police investigated, about a dozen of the victim’s friends and family members of gather along the sidewalk, and in an abandoned lot across the street. A man who identified himself as ‘Baby Boy’ said “I don’t play around on these streets anymore, ’cause I don’t want my kids to see me this way.” |
