AVP learns of anti-LGBTQ Police Violence Incident in Crown Heights, Brooklyn

AVP has learned of an anti-LGBTQ police violence incident and assault that took place in Crown Heights, Brooklyn on Sunday, January 13. According to the New York Daily News, Crown Heights resident Jabbar Campbell stated that police from the 77th precinct entered his home following a noise complaint and assaulted him while using anti-gay slurs.

AVP is currently working with Communities United for Police Reform and Brooklyn-based community organizations to follow up on this incident. We have also been in touch with the NYPD,
the office of New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office. AVP will be at a press conference this morning at 11am at the Law Offices of Subin Associates at 150 Broadway in Manhattan that will address this incident.

We will keep you informed of developments and any additional ways to take action.
