Voices could be heard screaming “hold me” and “I love you” as panicked revelers tore through the crowd during the Fourth of July display on the Ben Franklin Parkway. Hundreds of people shared social media posts Friday, reporting gunfire and a human stampede, although no shooting victims were reported. Media reports quote city officials suggesting that a person with a firecracker or a BB gun incited the disturbance but similar episodes were reported in 2011 and in 2012, when a police officer shot and wounded a gun suspect on the edge of the crowd. This compilation of YouTube reports shows police responding and the crowd dispersing while others picked up their trampled belongings.
