Four men arrested for a brutal hate violence attack in Babylon, Long Island; Reporting Violence Helps End Violence

The New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP) has learned of a brutal hate violence attack, which occurred this Sunday, July 21st at around 3:30am on Deer Park Avenue in Babylon, Long Island. According to media reports, four men in their late teens to early 20’s physically assaulted two men while using homophobic slurs.  Both men were admitted to the hospital, and one is in serious condition, according to media reports. The four men have been arrested on assault and hate crimes charges.

AVP is reaching out to community partner the Long Island LGBT Services Network to provide support in this incident.

This attack happened during a spate of high profile incidents of anti-LGBTQ violence throughout New York City.  Reports of hate violence increased 4% for LGBTQ and HIV-affected New Yorkers in 2012, continuing a three-year trend in increased violence locally, despite a national decrease in violence.  AVP continues to work with LGBTQ communities throughout New York City to respond to and end this violence.
