Paythia on the disrespect of President Obama,President Lyndon B. Johnson Speech, MLK In-Service Day & Racism in Our Country.......

You know what I'm TIRED of?
The disrespect of our President! NOT because he is an Incompetent PRESIDENT But because he is a BLACK PRESIDENT! Some REPUBLICANS think that it's their right to outright display their loathe for a man they don't believe should be the HEAD of this Country! Well, in the words of President Lyndon B. Johnson's' "WE SHALL OVERCOME".....WE DID! LIKE IT OR NOT.... A BLACK MAN BY THE NAME OF BARACK OBAMA IS THE "LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD" & DON'T GET IT TWISTED I DON'T CARE WHAT SURVEYS YOU CONCOCT, WE, BLACK PEOPLE WILL ONLY LET YOU GO SO FAR...TEARING HIM DOWN IS LIKE TEARING DR. MARTIN K. KING "DREAM" TO SMITHEREENS!
It’s time to get over it and move on!
And on another topic, In January we are gearing up to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.(January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) He was an American pastor, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs.
I'm not sure who thought of the idea to turn his honorary day into a day of beautifying our communities instead of educating both young and old on our history ESPECIALLY, due to the small number of voters who are at the polls on election days, and all the RACISM we are facing today,I truly believe we need to start educating people on our struggles, strives and accomplishments of the past and the struggles, strives, and opportunities for the present to lay a stronger foundation for our future. If we DON'T....HISTORY WILL REPEAT ITSELF & OUR CHILDREN AND OUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN WILL BE FIGHTING THESE SAME BATTLES!
Dr. M. L. King in his "I HAD A DREAM" Speech stated and I quote, "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." Bottom line is his DREAM CAME TRUE! WE ELECTED A YOUNG AT HEART, INTELLIGENT BLACK MAN AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! HE IS ALL OF OUR LEADER!
I only wonder would he be very DISAPPOINTED in US as a RACE and as a NATION for the HOMICIDES, SEPARATION, DYSFUNCTION & DISRESPECT we have allowed in the BLACK COMMUNITIES!
So, together 'LET'S DEMAND RESPECT" FOR OUR LEADER & OURSELVES!!!!!
xoxo,
PAYTHIA, CEO

#ALLLIVESMATTER!

We have much work to do to address illegal shootings in our country. Whether the focus is on police brutality and misconduct; gun crimes; black on black shootings and homicides or domestic gun violence.
So many times the topic of my conversations have been where do the responsibility lie? We are all aware that families like to keep secrets for each other. So you have to wonder do family members see the hidden gun in their home? Are they aware of the crimes (he) is committing in the city? Do they ask themselves if he is not working then how do he have new clothes, new sneaks, or money in his pockets?
If #BlackLivesMatter, really matter, then we need to protect them even if it means protecting them from themselves. We cannot in good conscious say that #BlackLivesMatter and not give a hoot about the lives our kin folks harm or murder!
All I know is that everyday I wake up it's like part of the norm to see who got killed during the night. And for the past few years it has become habit to keep up with the news on shootings throughout the day.
I believe we need to get better at taking care of our own families and neighborhoods and to stop waiting until after something happens...prevention methods save lives....lives matter!

#IFYOULETYOURFRIENDKILLDOYOULOVEHIM?

YOU KNOW YOUR FRIEND IS ABOUT TO KILL SOMEONE IT'S A CHANCE THAT HE MAY BE KILLED OR GO TO JAIL FOR A VERY LONG TIME....AS A TRUE FRIEND DO YOU...........

A. LET HIM THROW HIS LIFE AWAY?
B. DO YOU HIDE THE GUN FROM HIM?
C. DO YOU WARN HIS TARGET?
D. DO YOU TELL HIS MOTHER OR ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER?
E. DO  YOU REPORT THE INCIDENT TO THE POLICE?

HEY FRIEND, HOW CLOSE IS YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER? ALWAYS REMEMBER....
REAL FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS KILL!

Does anyone know the exact number of #UNSOLVED MURDERS IN PHILADELPHIA?

In a discussion with Ms. Paythia, CEO of AAV and the team of
young artists and volunteers about the show "How to Get  Away With Murder" I can relate to their way of thinking. If you are truly a "Champion against Violence" and your every thought and life work is focusing on what can you do to help reduce violence in your community...&..How can you save these young men from prison and death? When it is your life work it's hard to turn it on and off like a light switch. I guess the title would bother me too
when you are in the trenches, or watching the news and seeing  your city, your neighborhood, your community being plagued with people trying to get away with murder EVERYDAY!
And that my friends are as REAL as it gets.......
This is your favorite writer coming at you 100....

Are #SingleMothers Keeping Their Son Dirty Little Secret A #Secret?

As a man do you think that because so many single mothers are raising boys that it is one of the underlying
factors that so many young men put guns in their hand, go to jail or die young? I am not putting women down. I am a single mother myself however, again I asked this question because violence, guns, black on black hate is a problem in our community. Like it or not it is what it is......

Speak Up......xoxo Philly's Own Gossip Girl coming at ya!

Gun-Violence - the TAX PAYER BURDEN!!!

When will these gun toting fools realize that when they shoot it causes that domino effect......Look at it this way.......

  1. You  pulling the trigger already involves you and anyone who loves you.......
  2. Now lets discuss the victim of your senseless act & their loved ones
  3. The Healthcare Industry (because 10 times out of 10 you don't have insurance)
  4. The neighborhood you committed the crime in is now in fear and up in arms
  5. The Law Enforcement community is now trying to catch you and get you off the street
  6. The community you live in stats  increase
  7. The community the victim lives in stats increase
  8. The entire city crime/violence stats increase
  9. The court system or funeral home (depending on your status)
  10. Your child(ren) will now grow up without a father
  11. The victim child(ren) will grow up without their dad
  12. As research have proven 75% of children follow in their father footsteps so now you are the cause of you son and nowadays daughters going to  prison or dying at a young age
  13. And during each of these step TAX PAYERS feel the burden
And this happens EVERY-TIME one of you IDIOTS PULL THE TRIGGER

AND FOR WHAT?

  • A street reputation with you home boys who will not come to see your or send you money for commissary!
  • To become a burden to your family who most times are struggling and probably can't afford sending you money thru JPay
  • Your child being embarrassed for having a criminal for a dad
  • Your child growing up without a dad
  • Your mother, wife, girlfriend with a heavy heart
And the list goes on and on.....So before you put that gun in your hands think about someone else other than yourself for a change........ because at the end of it all if you are not dead from retaliation or the cops having to shoot you then hopefully you will rot in jail...

#GunCrisis Children getting shot and killed in #Philadelphia (MURDERDICULOUS)

"BOUT THAT LIFE" STREET TOUR -

Kickoff September 14, 2014 in the #22ndPoliceDistrict

Every time you turn around a child is being killed or harm by the gun violence in our city. I woke up this morning wondering if politicians are doing what they need to do about violence in our city.I wondered if the police department was giving it their ALL to stop violence! I wondered if parents no matter how difficult were doing what they need to do to prevent some of this violence. Then I wondered as residents were you and I doing our part to reduce violence in our city.
All I know is that times are not like they use to be.
  • Back in the day, if a shooting happened and a young person lost their life you would have a politician who district that was come pay respect to the family. Nowadays, I don't even think families get a phone call from a person you elected in office. I think more of an accountability system needs to be put in place especially if you want our vote!
  • Parents must take some of the blame too. Many times parents know their child is" up to no good" and they do nothing but turn a blind eye and deaf ears. These shooters are hiding their guns in their homes or homes of other relatives and no one is stepping up to the plate. Yea, I know all about the heavy heart but I am also aware of the "GUILT" many parents talk about before and after the funeral.
  • And what about the police, I think they are clueless on preventing violence & solving cases afterwards depending on how many unsolved cases and how much they give a damn when they are not dealing with corruption in house!
  • I don't even want to talk about the mayor of our city. 2015 can't come fast enough. I'm still baffled and disappointment that #PresidentObama chose him for anything especially saving minority boys! Hopefully time will bring change before he leaves office there are so many more qualified Black (LEGIT) Leaders who can fit that position better then #Nutter!
  • Now lets discuss you and I. On September 14, The Artists against Violence invited me to participate in their "Bout that Life" Street Tour. Here is the information provided: I hope "YOU" join the movement!

"BOUT THAT LIFE" STREET TOUR -

Kickoff September 14, 2014 in the #22ndPoliceDistrict

If anyone asks you about the #Philadelphia street tour? You can tell them that the “BOUT THAT LIFE” Tour combats occurring issues of violence and crime amongst Philadelphia’s troubled youth, young adults and families. This initiative focuses on using the Avenue of the Arts to ELIMINATE the Silence, the Shame and the Fear and to Educate, Empower, Encourage and Equip in hopes of providing individuals with a safe network of resources in the forefront to stand against violence and crime for all.

Who we are: Since 2006, NSF a non-profit 501 © 3 grass root organization has been committed to meeting the Employment, Educational, Social, and Developmental needs of struggling youth and young adults both in Philadelphia, PA, and Camden.  NSF Project Build Up empowers, educate, support, encourage and motivate youth in many topics relating to effective living skills. Together, we tackled issues from dropout rate and violence to practicing abstinence, conflict resolution, flash mob intervention and interests in entrepreneurship.

Why did we create the tour? NSF created the “THE BOUT THAT LIFE” Tour to bring organizations that offer services to parents, youth and families (especially ex-offenders) together to help Philadelphians find jobs, counseling, anger management, support groups, programs for trouble youth, support for parents dealing with troubled youth, and any other issues we are confronted with to find resources to decrease violence, crime and dysfunction in our neighborhoods.

The “BOUT THAT LIFE” Tour is an “A Call to Action” where local Artist utilizes the art of music and poetry with focal point on a united front with organizations throughout Philadelphia to hit the streets to perform with positive messages to promote saving lives and remembering the ones we have lost their lives to senseless violence acts. These artists have a peer to peep message along with handing out information to those who are in need.  Organizations will join us in providing information to the community regarding available programs and services especially for juveniles and ex-offenders. The tour starts in September, 2014

If you are an organization that would like your company info distributed during the tour
If you are an artists who have a positive message to share
If you are a resident that would like to volunteer.....

#GunCrisis Philadelphia homicides back on pace with last year

After running behind last year’s homicide rate through much of this summer, the total number
of victims is back on pace with 2013, according to the latest daily update from the Philadelphia Police
Department.

One month ago, police data indicated that nine fewer homicides had been reported during 2014 than
by the same date last year, representing a decline from 143 to 134 total victims — or a six percent
 improvement.

But on Tuesday morning, the Crime Maps and Stats page at phillypolice.com counted 160 homicide
victims in the city this year, identical to the year-to-date total for 2013.
20132014
Above: After several fluctuations, Philadelphia’s 2014 homicide rate was close to last year’s pace
through the first 32 weeks of each year, according to data taken from Philadelphia Police Weekly Reports.
After leaping nearly 30 percent ahead of last year’s rate through the first few months of 2014, this year’s
pace then fell behind and pulled nearly even again through the first 20 weeks of 2014, before the latest
 fluctuations.

During 2013, a total of 247 people were murdered in Philadelphia, down from 331 victims in reported
2012, representing an historic reduction of 25.4 percent, as we previously reported. More than 80
percent of last year’s homicide victims were killed with guns.

Growing Old Gracefully.....

In a world where time can’t be controlled should there be mandatory classes for those who hit the 40 something mark on how to grow old gracefully?  Desperation hits a person who sees time flying by without accomplishing the goals they once set for themselves. For some, it’s even guilt of the life changing mistakes they have made. The question remains, Am I where I should be in my existence with my career, relationship, family goals and personal life?

As time goes on, you start experiencing issues of growing old. In talking too many of my peers, health issues are beyond one’s control. Arthritis, weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes, menopause and for some, experiencing anxiety and depression becomes symptoms that make them more aware of life’s most precious moments.

I was never taught how to grow old gracefully. It just wasn't a topic of conversation that you wanted to hear about when you are younger. I now look at people who are older and respect those who age with grace and tranquility. Those who do not stop living because their age is a higher number but whom still set life’s short term and long term goals.

I now understand the meaning of a legacy and want to continue to build mines on my life work and dreams. A legacy that my children and their children be proud of and remember. So, yes there should be classes of how to grow old gracefully for men and women.  With mid-life crisis or the more correct term “transitional period in life” being inevitable for all of us, one must go through a period of self-reflection.  A time in life when reality sets in and you start comparing yourself to others and start feeling gradually regretful and self-conscious.

For most it begins when you start to have more questions than answers such as what is my purpose or who am I really? You have a few people who want to rehash their younger years by talking or acting hip. While others miss the way they use to look. For the majority the heightened sense of nutrition and well-being take precedence. So regretfully, we cannot stop the hands of time but we can all learn how to gracefully accept the change in times.

Have We Squash MLK Dream?

HAVE WE SQUASH M.L.K. DREAM?

I never realized how many grandmothers were incarcerated for various crimes until I attended the Social Service Fair at the Riverside Prison last month. In an era where children are lost and misguided, young black men are going to prison at an alarming rate, others are losing their lives from senseless violence and criminal acts and single moms are not focus on marriage, we now have the matriarch of black families showing generations after them the example of what NOT to be like.

I often wonder how we became so lost. When our ancestors had a plan, a vision of equality and a better life for future generations did we squash Martin Luther King Dream. In his dream did he ever consider that children and grandchildren would be incarcerated with their parents and grandparents? And is it too late for us to get back on track?

Can we blame it on the Jim Crow laws from old to new? Can we blame it on the lack of family values and education? Or do we blame it on lack of cultural inheritance and ignorance?

In talking to these women who are grandmothers they clearly know right from wrong. But while behind the walls they show embarrassment and guilt. Only for those feelings to fad once they are released.
Think about it for a moment. We have individuals in their 50’s who are not due retirement benefits because they choose retail theft instead of a retail job. Senior Citizens who are not eligible for social security because many lack lifetime earnings?  And let’s not forget about the grandparents who now say yes, to drug and alcohol abuse and even a life of crime.

How do we lead the younger generations to meaningful futures; a life of hope when they clearly see societal ills all around them every day? How do we teach them not to become victims of circumstances when incarceration, death, crime and violence have become part of the norm in their everyday life?

Like so many other organizations that attended the fair at Riverside, we offered our services and a helping hand to those women who truly want to change but feel stuck in the present. After visiting our table they now know that there is help available at no cost to them.

Now all we can do is wait for them to walk through our door.

#CEASEFIRE PA- Oppose HB2011

Join us on Facebook  Follow us on Twitter

Dear Friend,

First, a huge thank you to all who donated to our Beat Back the Bullies Fund. In just a few days, we more than met our challenge grant.  We appreciate your support and vote of confidence.

Second, in a few days, Harrisburg is ending its holiday break. It seems the folks up there need a reminder that they work for us, the people who elected them. As we reported a couple weeks ago, the gun lobby continues to try to finagle a deal to get their legislation to the floor and avoid the normal amendment process. We can’t let that happen.

We need the House leadership to know that we’re watching and won’t let them cut special deals with the gun lobby.  A few weeks ago, your calls to the Republican Speaker and Majority Leader got noticed.  Please take a few minutes now to call the two Democratic House leaders:

Democratic Leader Frank Dermody- (724) 274-4770
Democratic Whip Mike Hanna- (570) 748-5480

Tell them that you oppose HB 2011, the bill that punishes towns by allowing gun owners to sue about ordinances that don’t even affect them.  Let them know that bill should not run, but if it does, there should be a full debate on the amendments that have been proposed to it.

And let them know that HB 1243, which strengthens the background check system, is a good bill that you support, including the Santarsiero Amendment. Tell them to run this bill.

Most of all, let them know you’re watching what happens in Harrisburg and counting on them to represent the people.

Thanks,
Shira Goodman
