Philadelphia Police investigators examine the scene in East Germantown where officers found a taxi driver who had been shot during a robbery early Tuesday morning.

Cabbie Shot

According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, the cabbie picked up two men on Germantown Avenue and drove them to the 200 block of E. Hortter Street in East Mount Airy.
Police said that two men then announced a robbery and began to root through the driver’s pockets when one of the assailants opened fire, according to an NBC10 report. According to philly.com, police said the driver was shot in the arm. 6ABC is reporting that the victim was in critical but stable condition, and is expected to survive.

After the robbers fled, police spotted the wounded cabbie speeding along Chew Avenue in a Germantown Cab Company taxi. Officers caught up with the cab at the former Germantown Hospital, which now serves as a city behavioral health crisis center but no longer provides other emergency medical services. Officers rushed the wounded man to Einstein Medical Center in a patrol car.
The shooter left a single fired shell casing inside the taxi, where the meter still displayed the fare, next to a bloody steering wheel. Small said police have one suspect in custody.
