"BOUT THAT LIFE" STREET TOUR -  Kickoff September 14, 2014 in the #22ndPoliceDistrict Every time you turn around a child is being killed or harm by the gun violence in our city. I woke up this morning wondering if politicians are doing what they need to do about violence in our city.I wondered if the police department was giving it their ALL to stop violence! I wondered if parents no matter how difficult were doing what they need to do to prevent some of this violence. Then I wondered as residents were you and I doing our part to reduce violence in our city.  All I know is that times are not like they use to be.  Back in the day, if a shooting happened and a young person lost their life you would have a politician who district that was come pay respect to the family. Nowadays, I don't even think families get a phone call from a person you elected in office. I think more of an accountability system needs to be put in place especially if you want our vote!  Parents must take some of the blame too. Many times parents know their child is" up to no good" and they do nothing but turn a blind eye and deaf ears. These shooters are hiding their guns in their homes or homes of other relatives and no one is stepping up to the plate. Yea, I know all about the heavy heart but I am also aware of the "GUILT" many parents talk about before and after the funeral.  And what about the police, I think they are clueless on preventing violence & solving cases afterwards depending on how many unsolved cases and how much they give a damn when they are not dealing with corruption in house! I don't even want to talk about the mayor of our city. 2015 can't come fast enough. I'm still baffled and disappointment that #PresidentObama chose him for anything especially saving minority boys! Hopefully time will bring change before he leaves office there are so many more qualified Black (LEGIT) Leaders who can fit that position better then #Nutter!  Now lets discuss you and I. On September 14, The Artists against Violence invited me to participate in their "Bout that Life" Street Tour. You can tell them that the “BOUT THAT LIFE” Tour combats occurring issues of violence and crime amongst Philadelphia’s troubled youth, young adults and families. This initiative focuses on using the Avenue of the Arts to ELIMINATE the Silence, the Shame and the Fear and to Educate, Empower, Encourage and Equip in hopes of providing individuals with a safe network of resources in the forefront to stand against violence and crime for all. Who we are: Since 2006, NSF a non-profit 501 © 3 grass root organization has been committed to meeting the Employment, Educational, Social, and Developmental needs of struggling youth and young adults both in Philadelphia, PA, and Camden.  NSF Project Build Up empowers, educate, support, encourage and motivate youth in many topics relating to effective living skills. Together, we tackled issues from dropout rate and violence to practicing abstinence, conflict resolution, flash mob intervention and interests in entrepreneurship. Why did we create the tour? NSF created the “THE BOUT THAT LIFE” Tour to bring organizations that offer services to parents, youth and families (especially ex-offenders) together to help Philadelphians find jobs, counseling, anger management, support groups, programs for trouble youth, support for parents dealing with troubled youth, and any other issues we are confronted with to find resources to decrease violence, crime and dysfunction in our neighborhoods. The “BOUT THAT LIFE” Tour is an “A Call to Action” where local Artist utilizes the art of music and poetry with focal point on a united front with organizations throughout Philadelphia to hit the streets to perform with positive messages to promote saving lives and remembering the ones we have lost their lives to senseless violence acts. These artists have a peer to peep message along with handing out information to those who are in need.  Organizations will join us in providing information to the community regarding available programs and services especially for juveniles and ex-offenders. Man killed Sunday night in Southwest Philadelphia Posted: 01 Sep 2014 05:43 AM PDT Neighbors gather as police investigate fatal shooting Sunday night on Allman Street in Southwest Philadelphia. Medics pronounced a 35-year-old man dead at the scene after he was shot multiple times around 10:30 p.m. Sunday on Allman Street near 60th Street and Kingessing Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia. According to police, officers found the victim sitting inside a parked car with multiple chest wounds. 6ABC has a video report. ris By Monday morning, 14 people had been shot in Philadelphia during the holiday weekend, including one women and a teenager. Two men had been pronounced dead at shooting scenes.
