Join the G.R.A.V.I.T.Y. TOUR & Get Real About Violence Impacting the Youth!

THE ISSUES:

Violence: Did you know that Homicide is the second leading cause of death among youth aged 10-24 in the United States?

Domestic Violence: Are you aware that amongst youth between 11 and 17 years of age about 1 in every 5 women and nearly 1 in every 7 men have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner?

Bullying: Research shows us that bully victims are between 2-9 times more likely to commit suicide?  Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death amongst young people in the United States?

Social Network Intimidation: It is a proven fact that cyber-bullying and harassment are most often perpetrated by other teens? However, teens may also become the target of pedophiles.

Our Aim: The G.R.A.V.I.T.Y. Tour will help raise awareness and show other young adults that they are not alone. They too have a voice and can speak out against violence and bullying in various ways. The G.R.A.V.I.T.Y. team message: There is always an alternative to handling your problems. Youth encourage, empower and educate peers to find alternative ways to express themselves. These young adults use various forms of the arts to handle a problem; rather than ignoring or letting an issue escalate. “We believe that many of the issues affecting today’s youth stem from limited outlets and resources in their communities for constructive and engaging activity.” But through the avenue of the arts one does not need much but a pen and paper to explore the endless possibilities of creativity and the use of arts as therapeutic.
