The teens had just finished playing basketball at a local park when a man with a gun approached them and announced the robbery.

The group scattered as the gunman fired and struck a 19-year-old who wasDarbyHomicide08a

later pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, according to Darby Police Chief Robert Smythe.

Smythe said that the wounded teen ran down Coventry Avenue and knocked on the door of a home before collapsing. A house on Cedar Avenue was also struck by multiple bullets, but Smythe said that none penetrated into home, most striking an exterior brick wall after traveling through a screened in front porch.

Witnesses told police that they believe the gun used was a revolver, and no shell casings were found at the scene.  Photographs for the Gun Crisis Reporting Project by Tom Kelly IV.
